Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 15 Vehicle production this week
in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 366,797 units,
up from the 299,638 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 12,914,221 vehicles, up 2.7 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 249,523 vehicles this
week, an increase of 18.9 percent from the 209,809 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
9,380,407 units, up 1.1 percent from the 9,279,445 vehicles built in like-
1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 64,123, a 33.3
percent increase from the 48,122 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,164,567 units, down
0.4 percent compared to the 2,172,331 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 37.7 percent; Ford Motor Co., 26.2 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 11.9 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.9
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.1 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.3
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.4 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.9 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.2 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.7 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.3 percent.
