Modine's Jörg Soldner Wins Eurotherm Young Scientist Award
RACINE, Wis.--Sept. 15, 2000--Dr. Jörg Soldner, manager of research and development, Europe, at Modine Manufacturing Company , has won the Young Scientist 2000 Award from Eurotherm, the European Committee for the advancement of thermal science and heat transfer. This award is presented every four years to scientists under the age of 35 who present original PhD-level theses for evaluation on the basis of scientific level, originality and generality of work, importance of the results for thermal sciences, and suitability of modeling and experimental methods.Soldner received the award for his thesis on the use of photoacoustics to measure heat. The thesis, titled "The photoacoustic effect. A new method to determine thermal diffusivities of gases with high accuracy," covers an innovative measuring technique to determine how well gases conduct heat.
Soldner joined Modine in 1998 as a test engineer. He has a diploma and a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Stuttgart. In July, Soldner was named manager of research and development at Modine's European research and development center in Bernhausen, Germany. He received the award at the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd European Thermal Sciences Conference in Heidelberg, Germany, on Monday, Sept. 11.
