IPS Increases European Presence In Automotive Industry With Yield Management Solutions
MARKHAM, Ontario--Sept. 14, 2000--Image Processing Systems Inc. has increased its presence in the European automotive market with its latest order for automated glass inspection (AGI) systems.A leading global developer of e-Vision (electronic vision), IPS will supply two AGI 9800 Autoglass systems to one of the world's largest automotive glass manufacturers in a deal worth in excess of $560,000. Delivery of the systems is scheduled for early next year, and will be used in one of the customer's European plants to inspect automotive glass. According to Northville, MI-based market research firm CSM, Europe is the world's largest light vehicle producing region, accounting for approximately 37% of the 50.8 million vehicles produced in 1999.
Ken Wawrew, President and CEO of IPS, is very enthusiastic about the Company's leading role in the development of advanced automotive glass inspection technology. "Given the recent and highly publicized wave of quality-related concerns and lawsuits within the automotive industry, automakers and their suppliers are re-thinking how they can best address the growing need for improved quality standards, enhanced safety and performance features, and lower production costs. IPS has developed that solution for the autoglass industry by providing state-of-the-art enabling technology that allows manufacturers to implement tightened quality control measures, decrease costs and increase yields through optimization of their production processes."
IPS's turnkey AGI 9800 Autoglass systems provide fully automated, online quality inspection of windshields, side and rear windows and sunroofs during various stages of the manufacturing process. In addition to detecting and measuring defects such as scratches, pits, bubbles, stones, and inclusions, these systems can provide hole, paint band and trade logo inspection. The entry level AGI 9800 Autoglass systems to be delivered incorporate some of the latest advancements in optics and image processing technology (patents pending), including specialized lasers for enhanced edge inspection and bright field illumination. Replacing human inspection with IPS's advanced, online computer-based e-Vision technology enables customers to significantly reduce their parts-per-million (PPM) defect rates, while improving yields and speeding up the production process.
