Delta Nominates John F. Smith, Jr. of General Motors For Election to the Delta Board of DirectorsATLANTA, Sept. 14 Delta Air Lines today announced that John F. Smith, Jr., chairman of the board of directors and former chief executive officer of General Motors, has been nominated for election to the Board of Directors of Delta at the annual meeting of shareowners to be held October 25, 2000. "We are pleased to welcome Jack Smith as a candidate for Delta's board," said Leo Mullin, Delta's chairman and chief executive officer. "His depth of experience with key global business interests will be a significant addition to the talented individuals already on Delta's Board." Mr. Smith, 62, has been chairman of the board of directors of General Motors Corporation since 1996 and served as its chief executive officer from 1992 until June 1 of this year. He was also president of GM from April, 1992 through October, 1998. Mr. Smith is also a director of Hughes Electronics Corporation and The Procter & Gamble Company. He is a member of The Business Council and the U.S.-Japan Business Council and chairman of Catalyst. Mr. Smith is also a member of the Chancellor's Executive Committee of the University of Massachusetts, the Board of Trustees of Boston University and the Board of the Nature Conservancy.
