ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich.--Sept. 12, 2000--UniBar, Inc., bar coding and labeling software manufacturer, will be demonstrating at AutoTech today the e-commerce version of its label printing software -- e-BARCODE 2000 -- that enables users to print the General Motors 1724 label series from a web application via a browser. e-BARCODE 2000 supports 1D and 2D bar codes, including the AIAG B-10/B-14 specification label. The General Motors 1724 series label specification, released this spring, is being promoted by the company as a global industry standard. e-BARCODE 2000 has the ability to print the GM label from a web server via a browser on a client PC. e-BARCODE supports applications running on UNIX, Linux, and Windows(R) NT systems, including most popular applications in the automotive industry such as Oracle or SAP.
"GM's new shipping label standards are a big step towards utilizing the full automating processes that compliance labels can offer," said Ted Kruse, president of UniBar, Inc. "UniBar takes that automation one giant step farther by offering these labels via the web to all suppliers - in effect, offering instant compliance with no IT work involved for the supplier."
e-BARCODE 2000 can implement the full AIAG B-10/B-14 specification model required for the new General Motors label, which creates a unique identity for each package shipped. The next step indicated by GM, Direct Part Marking, will also be supported by UniBar when it is available from General Motors, since e-BARCODE 2000 offers bar code labels over the web as well.
Most web applications are written for UNIX, Linux or NT Servers -- all supported by e-BARCODE 2000. The software is also application and printer independent. It requires a simple interfacing to run seamlessly with most major WMS, ERP and custom application software. Labels are created by the Web application - procurement, warehousing, etc. -- and connected by a hyperlink to the supplier, customer or other user on the Internet client system. No software is downloaded at the client site - the customer merely views the intended label or document in his browser and prints.
e-BARCODE 2000 label designer is written in JAVA and has WYSIWYG capabilities, and provides a powerful and easily integrated way to print bar coded labels or documents throughout the enterprise from a single server. e-BARCODE 2000 offers enterprise print features which are especially convenient for its industrial/commercial client base using enterprise-wide software. Users can print anywhere on the network. Network, local, remote printers, and file print destinations are supported. In addition, e-BARCODE 2000 offers high-performance laser support for UNIX, Windows NT, Windows and LINUX systems, as well as full support on thermal printers.
e-BARCODE 2000 is available today. Software is downloadable from the web site. Pricing is based on an annual fee starting at less than $2,000/per server. UniBar products are sold through VARs and resellers or by calling UniBar directly at 800-731-6044, or accessing www.unibar.com.
