Varitek Introduces VariLink Telematics Systems for Consumer Markets

12 September 2000

Varitek Introduces VariLink(TM) Telematics Systems for Consumer Markets
HOUSTON, Sept. 12 Varitek Industries, Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Band: VATK) announced today the introduction of its VariLink(TM)
and VariLink(TM) Marine Systems of consumer-oriented wireless security and
telematics products and services to be launched Q-4 of 2000.
The announcement was made by Dan Goodhall, Varitek Industries President
and CEO, from the company's corporate headquarters in Houston, Texas. "With
the introduction of our consumer-oriented VariLink System, Varitek is
introducing affordable access to the true peace-of-mind telematics can deliver
to mass consumer markets," Goodhall remarked.
"The VariLink System provides all the 24/7 features and services consumers
want now," continued Goodhall, "including instant roadside assistance
response, accident and medical response, tamper notification, missing vehicle
or asset location, real-time tracking and recovery."
Telematics is a relatively new industry that combines wireless
communications and global positioning satellite technology to enable a variety
of security, tracking, communications and information services for vehicles
and assets. A recent UBS Warburg study anticipates telematics representing an
estimated $24 billion industry as early as 2005, growing to $47 billion by
2010.
The heart of the Varitek telematics solution package of technology and
services is the advanced Varitek InteleSet(TM), the actual hardware unit,
which is placed on a vehicle or asset. This single, self-contained "black
box" houses all components of the Varitek telematics platform including GPS
transponder, wireless communications boards, chipset, auxiliary power source,
memory archive, surge protector and antennas.
"The Varitek InteleSet unit is about the size of a paperback book," said
Goodhall. "It's quick and easy to install. With no exposed antennas to snap
and its own back-up power supply, it's virtually undefeatable. It can even be
mounted out-of-sight for extra security."
Initially to be sold to consumers through automobile and marine
dealerships either as standard equipment or after-sale option, the VariLink
System carries an MSRP of $899.00 for the InteleSet hardware, and a monthly
service subscription starting at $24.99 for first-level services.
"Our marketing program with dealerships is innovative in its support and
rewards," Goodhall continued, "and response from the field has been
gratifying."
The Varitek InteleSet has the unique ability to be programmed,
reprogrammed and upgraded via wireless downloads. Additional features and
services can be added or altered remotely, without requiring the customer
return to the dealership.
"Ultimately, the VariLink system is delivering real value to the
dealership -- and real value to the customer," concluded Goodhall. "And in
this business, that's the kind of win-win situation you dream of."
