PPG Offers Manufacturers Risk Management (Cost Avoidance) Solution
  PPG Broadens Access to World Leading Application Development Center-Flint

    TROY, Mich., Sept. 11 Popular Detroit cartoonist Richard
Guindon once sketched a scene showing a middle-aged man seated on the
examination table while his physician declares: "I want you to avoid all
excitement. Can you move to Grosse Pointe?"
    Scott Follett, Director of Total Service Solutions for PPG Automotive
Coatings, will draw the scene a bit differently. He would tell his patient or
client: "I want you to avoid unnecessary risk. Can you take a run up to
Flint?"
    Flint?  Yes, Flint.
    To PPG's Follett, "Risk Management" means "Cost Avoidance" and Flint is
the home to PPG's Application Development Center and Learning Laboratory, one
of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the world.
    In Flint, the PPG Application Development Center and Learning Laboratory
can help automotive manufacturers:

    *  Increase plant productivity
    *  Reduce in-plant re-work
    *  Reduce field warranty
    *  Reduce scrap
    *  Increase speed to market

    The PPG Application Development Center and Learning Laboratory can
duplicate conditions, including humidity and line speed, while providing
training, process development and testing of new process development.
    "PPG has eleven Application Development Center and Learning Laboratories
worldwide," said Follett. "The flexibility and advanced technology of our
centers like Flint lets customers try out new materials, equipment and
processes here before beginning production in their own plants. That means
less waste, lost production, warranty and increased speed to market. The net
result is increased shareholder return for our customers."
    "For PPG's customers, Flint is a pretty exciting place right now," said
Follett.
    Follett is presenting at this week's Advanced Coatings Technology
Conference in Dearborn.
