Auto Trader BTCC: Qualifying, Oulton Park
10 September 2000
REID AND TARQUINI POLE-AXE RIVALS Oulton Park, Cheshire - Saturday 9 September 2000 Weather: Changeable Ford's Anthony Reid today earned a valuable point to aid his hunt for the 2000 Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship by taking pole position for tomorrow's round 21 at Oulton Park. The Mondeo ace, second in the standings behind team-mate Alain Menu, has now closed the gap to five points. Reid will head a Ford 1-2-3 on the round 21 starting grid tomorrow with his other team-mate Rickard Rydell and Menu taking second and third respectively, despite carrying 40kg of success ballast. Said Reid: "I'm confident about the race tomorrow. I don't think Alain and Rickard will be able to live with me because of the extra weight they are carrying." Italian Gabriele Tarquini took pole position for round 22 in his Honda Accord, ahead of Reid and Vauxhall's Vincent Radermecker. Tarquini said: "This is the best car I have driven this year and I would say the Accord is the best car out there now. I am really optimistic about the race tomorrow." In Class B, newcomer Dan Eaves, racing a Touring Car VIP Club Peugeot 306 GTi to back up that division's points leader Alan Morrison, was quickest in both sessions.
