Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 8 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 285,895 units, a
shortened work week for most U.S. and Canadian plants due to holiday
observances, down from the 325,642 cars and trucks built last week, according
to Ward's Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 12,537,028 vehicles, up 2.8 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 191,040 vehicles this
week, a decrease of 19.1 percent from the 236,192 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
9,113,973 units, up 1.2 percent from the 9,001,922 vehicles built in like-
1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 51,596, a 4.6
percent increase from the 49,341 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,105,407 units,
virtually even with the 2,105,391 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.7 percent; Ford Motor Co., 28.0 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 10.9 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.6
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.4 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.4
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.1 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.9 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.3 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.9 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.8 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.4 percent.
