Tenneco Automotive Joins Group of Industry Leaders Exploring Business-to-Business Initiatives
Major Supply Companies Assessing Collaborative E-Business Opportunities
                        In the Automotive Aftermarket

DETROIT, Sept. 7 Tenneco Automotive , a leading
supplier in the automotive original equipment and aftermarket segments, has
joined other prominent automotive companies considering a collaborative, web-
based, business-to-business initiative focused on the North American
automotive aftermarket.
This initiative stems from a larger, industry-wide, exploratory project
announced by the suppliers in April. Each participating company supports the
e-business efforts of its customers, and seeks to realize its own supply-chain
management improvements by increasing speed and responsiveness and reducing
costs at all levels of the value chain.
Besides Tenneco Automotive, the other companies involved include: Dana
Corporation , Delphi Automotive Systems Corporation ,
Robert Bosch Corporation, The Timken Company , TRW Inc.
and Valeo (PA: VLOF).
The companies are focusing on technology issues facing the automotive
aftermarket and identifying business-to-business technology solutions.
Collectively, the companies are working to identify and implement technology
solutions at lower costs, resulting in greater benefits for participants and
their customers.
"The Internet will have a tremendous impact on the aftermarket, and this
group is focused on taking advantage of the opportunities through existing
distribution channels," said David G. Gabriel, senior vice president and
general manager, North American aftermarket, Tenneco Automotive. "Together,
we can help shape the direction in our industry so everyone benefits from e-
commerce."
It is anticipated, as the group focuses on opportunities of mutual
interest in the quickly-evolving business-to-business technology arena,
additional companies with similar aftermarket goals may consider
participation. This supplier group plans to pursue its web-based efforts in
the automotive aftermarket and announce its next steps in the fourth quarter
2000.
