FedEx Ground Names Senior Vice President of Operations

    PITTSBURGH--Sept. 7, 2000--FedEx Ground today announced the promotion of David L. Gerschultz to the position of senior vice president, Operations.
    Gerschultz is a 14-year veteran of the company's operations management team, and most recently was vice president of the Southern Division for the small-package ground carrier. He will be replaced by William E. Snavely, currently managing director of the Southwest Region for FedEx Ground.
    "Dave is ideally suited to help lead our company into what promises to be an exciting and demanding period of growth," said Daniel J. Sullivan, president and CEO of FedEx Ground. "He has a proven track record in operations management and has been instrumental in taking FedEx Ground service to levels unmatched in the small-package ground industry."
    Gerschultz began his career with FedEx Ground in 1986 as manager of the company's Dallas hub. After holding a number of field management positions, he was promoted to vice president of the Southern Division in 1994. In his newly created role as senior vice president of Operations, Gerschultz will be responsible for managing FedEx Ground's hub and linehaul network and 369 local pickup-and-delivery facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
    Snavely joined FedEx Ground in 1995 as assistant manager of the Mississippi Valley Region and was quickly promoted to manager of that region. Last year, he was named managing director of the Southwest Region.
    FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation , is the second largest small-package ground carrier in North America. The company recorded annual revenue of $2 billion in fiscal year 2000.
