Delphi Joins TecCom European Business-to-Business Aftermarket Exchange
FRANKFURT, Germany, Sept. 6 Delphi Aftermarket Operations,
a division of Delphi Automotive Systems , announced today that it
has joined the European business-to-business (B2B) enterprise TecCom GmbH with
an equity stake in the online automotive aftermarket procurement solution.
The announcement was made here in conjunction with the division's
participation in Automechanika 2000 (Hall 4, Stand C55), a major European
aftermarket trade show.
TecCom, which was formed in August, is an electronic communications system
developed under contract from TecDoc as an industry solution for the US$80
billion European automotive aftermarket. The innovative Internet and EDIFACT-
based system allows the integration of supply-chain management requirements
and online data search and ordering between manufacturers, distributors and
repair shops. The system also offers fully electronic business transactions,
which significantly reduce costs throughout the entire distribution channel.
Delphi joins 14 other parts manufacturer TecCom shareholders like Bosch,
Hella, Federal-Mogul, Magneti Marelli and Siemens. The group brings the
exchange a base of more than 150 established business relationships.
"Investment in TecCom gives Delphi an important stake in this established
exchange which will facilitate pricing, order processing, delivery tracking
and cataloging for Delphi's aftermarket products across the continent," said
Francisco (Frank) A. Ordonez, general manager of Delphi Aftermarket
Operations. "TecCom also supports our vision to be the automotive parts
supplier 'Partner of Choice' through advanced innovation technology, refined
distribution channels and value-added services while promoting the Delphi
brand."
The not-for-profit TecDoc organization was founded in 1994 by 24 major
automotive parts suppliers to standardize and catalog the European automotive
parts market. TecDoc remains the leading data information supplier for
catalog and technical information in Europe.
An alliance with Siemens Business Systems in 1997 allowed TecDoc to
develop TecCom, a for-profit enterprise to develop and operate software
systems to integrate supply-chain management requirements and online data
search and ordering between manufacturers, distributors and repair shops.
Multi-national Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy,
Mich., USA, Paris, Tokyo and Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a world leader in
transportation and mobile electronics components and systems technology.
Delphi's three business sectors -- Dynamics & Propulsion; Safety, Thermal &
Electrical Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communication -- provide
comprehensive product solutions to complex customer needs. Delphi has
approximately 216,000 employees and operates 179 wholly owned manufacturing
sites, 41 joint ventures, 53 customer centers and sales offices and 31
technical centers in 39 countries. Delphi can be found on the Internet at
