    SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 6 On Thursday, September 28, 2000,
some of today's most creative luminaries -- Tracey Ullman, Roger Ebert,
Stan Lee, Mike Figgis, Brenda Laurel and Jerry Harrison -- will participate in
a provocative roundtable on the fusion of arts, entertainment and technology.
The event will be emceed by Ben Stein, host of Comedy Central's "Win
Ben Stein's Money" and the interview series "Turn Ben Stein On."
    Salon.com , a leading Internet media company and Lexus, a
premier luxury automotive company, will host this private event -- "From Degas
to Dot.com" -- at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in downtown
San Francisco.  Invited guests will be treated to a cocktail party in the
Yerba Buena's East Garden followed by a freewheeling discussion with some of
today's most admired artists and performers -- among them a seven-time Emmy
Award-winning actress, the co-creator of the X-men and Spiderman comics and a
Pulitzer Prize recipient.
    "From Degas to Dot-com" is the second annual celebration of the
Lexus-sponsored weekly profile series "Brilliant Careers" which appears
exclusively on Salon.com.  Since November 1998, Salon and Lexus have offered
