(PRNewsFoto)[KI] SOUTHFIELD, MI USA 05/25/2000FRANKFURT, Germany, Sept. 6 Federal-Mogul -- the world's largest producer of friction materials and maker of the famous Ferodo(R) brand -- is taking advantage of the largest automotive trade expo in the world to preview its new, purpose-designed range of aftermarket friction parts, for light commercial vehicles. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000525/DETH025LOGO ) As many vehicle manufacturers design and produce specific models for this sector which are not simply adapted versions of their existing car ranges, it is important that there should be bespoke friction product to cater to the needs of these vehicles. Federal-Mogul's extensive research and development facilities have allowed the company's friction experts to look at the specific friction requirements of light commercial vehicles in all key areas. Federal-Mogul's Ferodo brand comes to Automechanika armed with the first and, to date, only catalogue of friction product which has been specifically drawn up to meet the needs of this significant and expanding sector of the commercial vehicle market. As one might expect, with Federal-Mogul being a leading OE brake supplier, the quality and specification of the aftermarket range equals or exceeds OE standard. With safety in mind, the Ferodo product is designed with excellent fade resistance and water recovery characteristics. This ensures maximum stopping power and brake performance under heavier than normal load situations, as well as safer driving under adverse conditions. Naturally, the product must be in tune with recent developments in the vehicles themselves and Ferodo therefore offers full ABS, TCS, EBD and ASC compatibility. This ensures that the material will cope well with the increasingly sophisticated braking requirements witnessed in this current generation of vehicle whilst, at the same time, offering minimal interference with electronic systems. From an environmental point of view, the Ferodo range has full noise reduction specification and a minimal bedding-in period which offers quiet braking and increased driver comfort. When the range becomes available, later this year, it will be introduced with the full marketing and technical back-up of Federal-Mogul. It will feature its own distinctive new blue packaging, to distinguish it from other manufacturers' product and indeed from Ferodo's own car product. A new and bespoke catalogue will be available for the range. This will be accompanied by a Material Specification Folder offering essential technical information at point of sale. To ensure maximum visibility on introduction, Federal-Mogul will be producing a poster as well as running a press awareness campaign during the autumn. Sue Lamb, Federal-Mogul's European brand manager responsible for keeping Ferodo's name at the forefront of aftermarket activities, comments. "Light Commercials are a large sector of the market and one that is still growing. The Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter and others in the category are, in some cases, better known vehicles than their car counterparts. It seems natural, therefore, that Ferodo, as a leading innovator, should develop materials specifically for that sector. These materials address the critical needs of the market: performance, refinement, and maximum pad and disc life. The range allows customers to focus on this demanding market with products designed to do the job."
