SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 5 Sealed Power(R) from
Federal-Mogul Corporation has been selected as the first official
brand of the National Hot Rod Association. The announcement was made during a
press briefing Saturday at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

Sealed Power is Federal-Mogul's premier brand of replacement internal
engine components. The Sealed Power product family comprises a complete
system of internal parts -- including pistons, piston rings, camshafts,
bearings, valves, valvetrain components, timing products and oil pumps -- for
virtually any domestic or import engine.
Sealed Power and the other leading Federal-Mogul engine parts brands have
been among the most active sponsors of NHRA professional and sportsman
competition. Federal-Mogul also is title sponsor of the NHRA Federal-Mogul
Drag Racing Series, a 64-event tour for the more than 36,000 registered
sportsman drivers and teams.
As NHRA's first official brand, the Sealed Power name will join the
sport's elite sponsors. In addition, Federal-Mogul will be able to fully
leverage its growing marketing partnership with NHRA to enhance brand
recognition and preference among the more than one million professional
technicians and engine builders throughout North America.
"As an official brand of NHRA, Sealed Power will maximize the marketing
value of our drag racing involvement by reaching out to a huge base of
customers and prospects who build or repair engines on the job every day,"
said Jay Burkhart, vice president of strategic planning and marketing for
Federal-Mogul. "Like thousands of drag racing teams, aftermarket engine
rebuilders and repair technicians can create more power, for more engines, by
relying on Sealed Power."
The brand announcement comes just two months after Federal-Mogul extended
through the 2003 racing season its commitment to the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag
racing Series -- and increased season-ending racer points bonuses by nearly
50 percent. The company also introduced a new Sealed Power Low-Qualifier
Award, which each year will pay out more than $172,000 to the low-qualifiers
in divisional and national competition within five NHRA sportsman categories.
"When we announced our extended contract and the Sealed Power Low
Qualifier program earlier this summer, we promised that the announcement would
be just the first sign that we're turning up the power behind our key engine
parts brands," Burkhart said. "We've made these commitments in order to help
our customers grow their engine parts businesses. No other engine parts
manufacturer is putting more marketing firepower behind its brands."
"We're very proud of our growing partnership with Federal-Mogul, the
Sealed Power brand and the company's other leading underhood brands and
product lines," said NHRA President Tom Compton. "We're serious about growing
this sport, and it's obvious that Federal-Mogul is equally committed to
maximizing its share of the North American engine parts market."
Through its four-year partnership with NHRA, Federal-Mogul has helped
raise sportsman competition to new levels of performance and fan appreciation.
The company also has greatly expanded its presence in professional drag racing
-- Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power, Champion spark plugs and Fel-Pro gaskets
brands are associate sponsors of defending NHRA Top Fuel Dragster champion
Tony Schumacher. Champion also is associate sponsor of Pro Stock Truck
titleholder Bob Panella Jr., three-time Pro Stock Bike champion Matt Hines,
Top Fuel Dragster pilot Larry Dixon, Funny Car driver Ron Capps and legendary
Top Fuel competitor Kenny Bernstein.
"Federal-Mogul has developed one of the most comprehensive and innovative
sponsorship packages in the history of NHRA. Their involvement is a strong
signal to millions of drag racing fans and aftermarket professionals that
Sealed Power, Champion and Fel-Pro are synonymous with power," Compton said.
