Data Systems & Solutions to Perform Major Upgrade at Con Ed PlantRESTON, Va., Sept. 5 Data Systems & Solutions, a joint venture between Rolls-Royce plc and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), has been chosen to supply Consolidated Edison Company with a major upgrade of its process monitoring computer systems at the Indian Point 2 (IP2) nuclear power plant in Buchanan, New York. The multi-million dollar award, terms of which were not disclosed, includes supplying IP2 with data acquisition, processing, and display hardware and software for the plant process computer system and the safety assessment system. Documentation, training and site installation support are also included in the contract. SAIPMS, Data Systems & Solutions' software system product for plant monitoring and analysis and the leading industry product for this type of application, will be utilized. SAIPMS capabilities have recently been expanded to provide for Web-based access to real-time and historical data. "The Data Systems & Solutions product was considered to be the most technically viable and cost effective as well as the one whose basic structure has been tried and proven. The Project Team is looking forward to working with Data Systems & Solutions to implement this new computer system," said Fehmi Aydin, IP2 Computer Applications Manager. In addition, the upgrade will include interfaces to Data Systems & Solutions' Control Room Automation (CORA) suite of products, including AutoLog and AutoTour. AutoLog aids the plant operations staff by automating plant logging while AutoTour automates the collection of plant data during operator rounds. The system is being staged and integrated at Data Systems & Solutions' Chattanooga, Tennessee, facility. The upgrade is currently in progress and is expected to take approximately 22 months, with a delivery to site scheduled for late December, 2001.
