BMW Manufacturing Corp. Launches WebsiteSPARTANBURG, S.C., Sept. 5 To display its world-class factory to a global audience, BMW Manufacturing Corp. has launched a website. The site's URL is http://www.bmwusfactory.com. The South Carolina factory is one of the first vehicle manufacturers to give visitors a peek into the manufacturing process through the worldwide web. "The more than 30,000 people a year who visit our operations in South Carolina show that there is tremendous interest in seeing how BMWs are built. Not everyone, however, is in a position to travel to Upstate South Carolina to get that personal view. So, we have tried to create a web presence that mirrors the top-notch, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that we have built in the United States," said Robert Hitt, manager for Public Affairs. The new site highlights the manufacturing of the vehicles built at the plant -- the Z3 roadster and coupe, M (motorsports) roadster and coupe, and the X5 sports activity vehicle. One of the most interactive features of the site is the "virtual plant tour," which uses panoramic images to give a view of Body, Paint and Assembly manufacturing areas. A visitor can take an interactive tour of the Zentrum and an events listing gives up-to-date information on events at the plant such as the Z3 Homecoming and Oktoberfest. The Zentrum also has a website and the URL is http://www.bmwzentrum.com.
