SPX's Edwards Systems Technology Subsidiary Acquires Ziton
    MUSKEGON, Mich., Sept. 5 SPX Corporation today
announced that its Edwards Systems Technology subsidiary has acquired Ziton SA
(Pty) Ltd.  Ziton, with revenues of approximately $14 million, is a
manufacturer of fire detection and alarm systems distributed in Africa, the
Middle East, Europe, the Far East, and Australia.  With a manufacturing
facility in Cape Town, South Africa, Ziton's sales administration is based in
Milton Keynes, the United Kingdom.
    Commenting on today's announcement, John B. Blystone, Chairman, President
and CEO of SPX Corporation said, "Leveraging our core competencies is a key
component of our growth strategy.  The acquisition of Ziton adds complementary
technology, expands the product and service offerings, bolsters Edwards
Systems Technology's global position, and provides internationally based
manufacturing capabilities for life safety systems."
