Guinn again in Toledo ARCA Trucks

5 September 2000

Toledo, OH, 9-3-00 – Erie, Michigan driver Chad Guinn continued in his
reign over the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series Sunday night at Toledo
Speedway with a victory in the Target Expediting 100.

Guinn, in the Sonic Expediting Ford, kept runner-up finisher Troy
Marciniak at bay by a half straightaway at the final stripe to earn his
career sixth ARCA Truck triumph. And more importantly, Guinn, who has
won three of the last four events on tour, overhauled the point lead
away from veteran Hamilton, Ohio driver Johnny Witham with just two
events remaining on the 2000 schedule.

Jack Weethee, plagued with bad luck for most of the year, finally turned
his season around with a strong third place finish in front of team
trucks Joe Wormcastle and Kyle Witwer in fourth and fifth respectively.

Witham, in AJ Pate’s Fab Shop Ford, won the Hoosier Tire Pole Award with
quick time and led the first 20 laps before rookie Paul Hahn raced by
for the top-spot. However, Hahn’s lead was short lived when defending
race winner Robbin Slaughter charged ahead to take control for 33 laps
before Hahn reassumed command on lap 57. Hahn held the lead until
electrical problems ended his gallant charge just 17 laps from the
finish. Witham, also plagued with mechanical woes, fell out with engine
trouble while Slaughter fell victim to ignition problems. But Guinn, who
had raced in the top-five all night, was waiting to pounce as the
front-runners ahead fell out one by one.

Greenville, Ohio driver Stan Maitlen, who started 19th in the ARC
Abrasives-GSI Ford, recorded his career-best finish in sixth and won the
Ed & Company Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions.
Defending ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series champion Bill Withers
finished 7th but only completed 91 laps having fallen victim to an
accident involving David Clay who was credited with finishing eighth.
Neither driver was injured. Slaughter, still in the thick of the point
battle, held on long enough to finish ninth with 89 laps completed and
was awarded the Cloyes Gear Halfway Leader honors while Bobby Marvin
completed the top-10 finishers.

Next event for the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will be in
conjunction with ARCA’s Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series this weekend at the
legendary Salem Speedway beginning Saturday, September 9 with the UHL
Truck Sales 100.
