Kia Sets Sales Record in AugustIRVINE, Calif., Sept. 1 Kia sold 16,454 vehicles in August, the highest monthly sales total since the company began selling cars in America in 1994. Leading the way were the Sephia compact sedan (6,259 units) and the Sportage sport-utility vehicle (4,995). The Rio, America's least expensive sedan, accounted for 3,344 sales in its first full month in dealerships. Year-to-date Sportage sales are 34 percent ahead of last year's pace, while Kia's overall sales through August -- 103,289 units -- are 13 percent above last year's sales. Kia Motors America is the U.S. sales, marketing and service arm of Kia Motors Corp. in Seoul, South Korea.
