American Honda Shatters All-Time Sales Mark
TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 1 American Honda sold more cars
and trucks during August than any previous month in its history, according to
sales figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
Total sales of 117,768 Honda and Acura vehicles shattered the previous
mark of 107,651 set in August of last year and were up by 5.3 percent based on
a daily selling rate.* In the process, Honda Division sales of 105,037 topped
the 100,000 mark for the first time ever and Acura Division sales of 12,731
were up 2.7 percent from last August.
Year-to-date American Honda sales of 801,646 are 9.6 percent ahead of last
year's all-time record pace.
"When you're hot you're hot, and in August we were sizzling," said Dick
Colliver, American Honda executive vice president. "The big percentage
increases were in light trucks, and we also sold more than 42,000 Accords
(a new August record), 34,000 Civics and nearly 13,000 Acuras."
Pacing the Honda Division increase was a new all-time monthly record for
light truck sales of 26,261, led by an all-time CR-V monthly sales mark of
12,621 and a 30.8 percent increase in Odyssey sales to 11,043, a new August
record.
Acura Division sales were led by a 20.6 percent increase in the CL to
2,640 and a new August record for TL sales of 6,123.
(*There were 27 selling days in August 2000, compared to 26 in August
1999.)
