Ford Motor Company Sets New August U.S. Sales Record
U.S. Consumers Lift Ford Explorer, Ford F-Series,
And Ford Excursion to New Sales Records
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 1 U.S. consumers purchased or
leased 352,453 cars and trucks from Ford , Mercury, Lincoln, Jaguar,
Volvo, and Land Rover dealers in the month of August. The previous August
sales record (349,855) was set last year. New August sales records were
established for the Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle (40,157) and the Ford
F-Series pickup (71,183). The Ford Excursion set an any-month sales record
(4,978).
Other August sales records were established by:
* Ford Division -- New August record (288,642) for America's best selling
brand of cars and trucks.
* Lincoln -- New August record (18,487) eclipsing a mark that was set
1990.
* Lincoln LS -- New August record (5,048) for Motor Trend magazine's Car
of the Year

the-clock efforts to respond to customers, they have been caring, inventive,
and passionate. We know we have much more work to do."
[Note: This year, there were 27 selling days in the month of August. Last
August, there were 26 selling days. On that basis, Ford Motor Company's car
and truck sales were three percent lower than a year ago.]
