BMW Reports Best Month Ever with August Sales; Year-To-Dates Sales Jump 15 Percent
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Sept. 1 BMW of North America, Inc.
reported its strongest month ever, with sales of 16,812 vehicles, an increase
of 22 percent over the 13,781 reported for the same period a year ago. BMW
also reported year-to-date vehicle sales of 120,763, a 15 percent increase
compared to 105,182 sales in 1999.
Automobile sales
Automobile sales increased 3 percent year-to-date, to 108,352 compared to
105,182 in 1999. BMW reported automobile sales of 14,443 for August, compared
to 13,781 a year ago, an increase of 5 percent, including the first Z8 models
delivered to customers in the U.S.
Monthly sales of BMW's 3 Series models were particularly strong -- up
21 percent over 3 Series sales last August. Year-to-date, BMW has sold more
3 Series models (56,749) than it sold automobiles in all of 1991 (53,342).
Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
The company also reported August Sports Activity Vehicle sales of
2,369 and year-to-date SAV sales of 12,411. The BMW X5 Sports Activity
Vehicle first went on sale in December 1999 and now is sold at 315 authorized
BMW SAV centers nationwide.
Certified Pre-owned Vehicle Sales
Certified Pre-owned (CPO) vehicle sales were strong in August, too. BMW
reported monthly sales of 4,095, up 29 percent over last year. Year-to-date,
sales of CPO BMWs jumped 77 percent to 31,308, over 17,657 in 1999, surpassing
1999 annual CPO sales of 28,253 .
