Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 1 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 311,158 units,
down from the 352,749 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 12,236,481 vehicles, up 3.0 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 220,917 vehicles this
week, a decrease of 13.9 percent from the 256,462 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
8,907,490 units, up 1.5 percent from the 8,773,778 vehicles built in like-
1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 46,982, a 25.1
percent decrease from the 62,712 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,051,452 units,
virtually even with the 2,050,584 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.2 percent; Ford Motor Co., 26.5 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 11.7 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.1
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.7 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.4
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.2 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 2.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.2 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.9 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.6 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.8 percent.
