NASCAR WEST: Woodside to Take on Madera for the First Time

August 31, 2000 (Palmdale, Calif.) - Sean Woodside, driver of the REF
Motorsports #4 Pontiac in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring,
will rely on the REF team's experience as he prepares for this Saturday's
Food 4 Less MDA 100 at Madera Speedway.

Madera is one of several tracks on the Southwest Series circuit at which
Woodside, who is NASCAR's 1999 Winston West champion, is making his first-ever
appearance.  

REF Motorsports team will be prepared with notes and statistics from last
year's event at the 1/3-mile oval, when they finished in third place with
the team's former driver, Dennis Dyer.  

"Madera is a survival track," advised team owner Bob Farmer.  "It's small
and fast.  You've got to qualify up front, be careful, and stay out of
trouble.  Sean hasn't raced Madera before, but he's got the short-track
experience to pull it off."

Good reflexes are a requirement at Madera, where the fast-paced action
can result all too quickly in an early end to a team's efforts.  Even
Dyer hit the wall in the front straight-away three times on his way to
a third place finish.  

"It's good to know that the team did so well last year, considering this
is my first time at Madera, and most of the drivers have raced here before,"
said Woodside.  "It should give us a head start Saturday.  Assuming we
can make a good qualifying run, our goal will be to stay at the front
and avoid getting caught up in wrecks."
