J. B. Speed to Retire From USA Truck

VAN BUREN, Ark.--Aug. 30, 2000--Mr. Robert M. Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer of USA Truck, announced today that he has been advised by Mr. J. B. Speed, Chairman of the Board of the Company, that Mr. Speed would be retiring from his position as Chairman at the regular Quarterly Board Meeting on October 18, 2000.
Mr. Speed is one of the original participants in the group that acquired the Company in December 1988 and has served as Chairman since that date. Prior to that, Mr. Speed had been employed for twenty-one years with Arkansas Best Freight Corporation and his private investment company, Transco, Inc.
Mr. Powell stated that "Breck Speed has been a valuable contributor to our Company since we acquired it. Not only was he an original investor, he was invaluable in guiding us through our initial public offering and through the recent acquisition of CCC Express. He has been a continuous source of sound advice. I am pleased that Breck will continue to serve on our Board of Directors where his judgment and counsel will continue to help move the Company forward."
Following Mr. Speed's retirement, Mr. Powell will assume the duties of Chairman of the Board in his capacity as President and Chief Executive Officer until the Board of Directors elects a new Chairman.
