AirIQ Appoints Senior VP, Announces New Vertical Markets

TORONTO--Aug. 29, 2000--Don Simmonds, President and CEO of AirIQ Inc., a wireless application service provider specializing in the emerging telematics industry, today announced the appointment of Mark Lukowski to the position of Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales. AirIQ provides Web-enabled wireless solutions to locate and manage vehicle fleets.
Formerly President of Clarke Transport, a leading Canadian freight company, Lukowski brings over 20 years of national and international management experience in the computer, wireless, and transport industries. Prior to joining Clarke he held increasingly senior sales, marketing and management positions at Hewlett-Packard and Motorola.
"With new services being created by the integration of wireless, computing and the Internet, it is difficult to find proven leaders that understand the technology, and also know exactly how it should be applied to the benefit of large scale fleets," said Simmonds. "Mark's tremendous blend of expertise in computing, telecommunications and the operation of a transportation enterprise will be a terrific addition to AirIQ's strong team. In addition to his proven management skills, he brings a wealth of experience in building successful emerging businesses."
As senior vice president, Lukowski will head up AirIQ's vertical market divisions. These include the well-established rental vehicle and lease fleets divisions, both led by vice president Anne Taylor; and the commercial transport division, led by vice president Miguel Gonsalves.
AirIQ also announced today plans to deliver its Web-enabled fleet management solutions to two new vertical markets: school buses and heavy equipment. Lukowski will lead the creation of these new divisions, under his overall responsibility for client acquisition and subscriber services.
"All signals point to telematics as a great place to be in wireless," said Lukowski. "AirIQ is well-recognized as the Canadian leader in providing telematics services to vehicle fleets. I believe AirIQ's excellent solution and focused approach on key vertical markets is a recipe for success. It's a very exciting time to be joining the team."
Mr. Lukowski holds a bachelor of mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo and a master's degree in business administration from McMaster University. He is an executive member of Junior Achievement of Canada and a former member of the Strategic Leadership Forum.
