    SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 28 Dale Furutani Flanagan
joined Edmunds.com as Chief Information Officer in July 2000, reporting to the
Chief Operating Officer.  In this position, Mr. Flanagan is responsible for
the company's information systems and technological development.
    Prior to this appointment, Mr. Flanagan served as a consultant to Ernst
and Young in the US and Japan on internet and automotive issues.
    Mr. Flanagan's background illustrates both interest and expertise in both
technology and the automotive business.  In 1969, he entered the automotive
industry, rising through the ranks at Nissan Motor Corporation USA to become
Sales and Distribution Systems and Procedures Manager by 1977.  Following a
brief time as Parts Marketing Manager for Yamaha Motorcycles USA, he became
President of Joseki Computer Corporation, a third party supplier to Hewlett
Packard.  For 19 years, Mr. Flanagan owned a small consulting company where he
provided guidance in sales, marketing and distribution systems for clients
such as Nissan, Subaru, J.D. Power and Associates, General Electric, Land
Rover North America, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Xerox, Ernst and Young, and
Isuzu.  From 1996 through 1998, he was Director of Information Technology for
Nissan Motor Corporation USA.
    An accomplished writer, Mr. Flanagan has published four mystery novels,
three computer books and over 250 articles on computers and business.  His
fifth mystery novel, "Kill the Shogun," is being released in September 2000;
over 25 book signings are scheduled for this fall.  Mr. Flanagan started
writing book-length fiction in 1993 under his birth name, Dale Furutani.  His
first novel, "Death in Little Tokyo," was nominated for an Agatha award, an
Anthony Award and a Macavity award as Best First Mystery.  It won both the
Anthony and the Macavity, making Dale the first Asian American to ever win a

    Mr. Flanagan has been keynote speaker at several writing conferences
including the California Writers Club conference and Pacific Northwest Writers
Association, and has addressed the Japanese American National Museum, the U.S.
Library of Congress, the Pacific Asia Museum, and the Los Angeles Times
Festival of Books.  In recognition of his writing, Dale Furutani Flanagan was
chosen as one of 44 people representative of the cultural diversity and
vibrancy found in the City of Los Angeles, as part of the recent LA: A World
of Difference campaign.
    Mr. Flanagan earned his MBA in Marketing from UCLA and graduated from
California State University, Long Beach, Cum Laude with a BA in Creative
Writing.  Additionally, throughout his career, he has attended extensive
professional development courses.
    A third generation Japanese American (a sansei), he was born in Hilo,
Hawaii on December 1, 1946 and currently resides in the Silverlake section of
Los Angeles with his wife Sharon.  The couple was recently honored by the City
of Los Angeles for their efforts to preserve and protect Silverlake reservoir.
