Gibbons dominant at Mosport in CASCAR Castrol Super Series
28 August 2000
OSHAWA, ON - Peter Gibbons is quickly becoming the Tiger Woods of the Canadian stock car scene. On Sunday afternoon at Mosport Int'l Raceway, the Stouffville, ON racer won the 'UAP/NAPA Presents the Mosport 250km' CASCAR Castrol Super Series National event for the second year in a row. And in doing so, the Canadian Tire Chevy driver added to his points lead as the CASCAR tour heads to London, ON's Delaware Speedway Park for next weekend's Super Series National conclusion. For the third time in the last three races, Gibbons came across the finish line directly in front of his nearest rival, Don Thomson Jr., in the Home Hardware Chevrolet. Although Thomson was able to briefly grab the lead from Gibbons, on lap 45 of 64 around the legendary Mosport road course circuit, Gibbons was too strong and powered back to the lead - for the final time - on the next circuit. "We have no complaints about how the car handled today," said Gibbons, after doing a victory dance on the roof of his winning ride. "I'm more comfortable on the ovals where we usually race, but we're getting used to the road courses and we're happy to be winning races." Finishing third in the field of 32 starters pat Mosport was Sherwood Park, AB racer Kevin Dowler. The Ford Quality Care Taurus driver won the previous two CASCAR events held on road courses this summer, but was unable to run down the leaders after waiting too long to pit for new tires. by Inside Track Communications.
