Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ - Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 353,076 units, up
from the 345,280 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 11,919,421 vehicles, up 3.4 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 260,898 vehicles this
week, an increase of 3.9 percent from the 251,043 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
8,688,845 units, up 2.2 percent from the 8,502,122 vehicles built in
like-1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 56,161, a
2.8 percent increase from the 54,633 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,992,112 units, down
0.3 percent from the 1,997,537 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 31.2 percent; Ford Motor Co., 35.2 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 9.9 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc.,
5.2 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.9 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp.,
3.1 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.7 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.7 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.9 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.5 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.3 percent.
