eMissions Testing Announces Expansion Plans
CUMMING, Ga.--Aug. 24, 2000--eMissions Testing, Inc. (eMissions), a recently formed venture aimed at establishing a significant position in the vehicle emissions testing industry, today disclosed its near-term strategy with regard to its entry in the marketplace. It has recently completed the acquisition of its initial testing operations, which are operating in the suburban Atlanta, Georgia emission testing marketplace. In addition to increasing the number of emission testing stations in the Atlanta marketplace, it is also contemplating expansion into a number of the other twenty-five (25) states, which also require vehicle emissions testing."We intend on increasing our presence in the Atlanta, Georgia marketplace, then continue to add sites on a national basis," stated William Estroff, President of eMissions. The Company currently operates two (2) stations in the Atlanta market, and is in discussions for the opening of three (3) additional new sites in the metro area. The specific locations were not disclosed. When asked about plans to acquire additional existing, competing test stations, Mr. Estroff said, "We intend on becoming a major player in this market and will consider expansion through acquisition where it is more advantageous than internal growth."
The vehicle emissions testing business is key to air quality in the world for the benefit of the population today, and for generations to come. During the most recent period for which the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made testing data available, 1997, centralized testing programs in the U.S. and Canada performed approximately 23.0 million paid tests and generated approximately $250 million in revenues, while facilities in decentralized testing markets in the United States performed approximately 41.7 million tests and generated approximately $816 million in revenues. The EPA has stated that vehicle emissions produce approximately 50% of the ozone air pollution and nearly all of the carbon monoxide air pollution in metropolitan areas.
The vehicle emissions testing program in the State of Georgia is directed by the Georgia Clean Air Force, a management contractor for the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. According to the State of Georgia approximately 2.3 million cars are subject to testing in the thirteen (13) county area surrounding Atlanta. Testing is currently required on a bi-annual basis, with an increase in testing volume expected in 2001 as a result of legislation requiring annual testing beginning January 1st.
eMissions Testing, Inc. is a provider of decentralized vehicle emissions testing, seeking to grow through an increased presence in the market, both regionally and nationally. The Company has established its headquarters in Cumming, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, and intends to maintain its operations center at that location.
