GTE Awards AVeL-Tech With an Automatic Vehicle Location Contract for the City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department
LAVAL, Quebec--Aug. 24, 2000--GTE has awarded AVeL-TECH with an Automatic Vehicle Location contract for the City of Fort Lauderdale, FL Police Department.The AVeL-NET system will provide real-time tracking of 173 police/fire vehicles. It will enable dispatchers and other host computers connected to the network to graphically display GPS-based position information from fleets of vehicles on a digital map and to perform interactive operations in both real-time and playback modes. The system will run on a Motorola DataTAC network and will coexist with Intergraph's Computer-Aided Dispatch (I/CAD).
By combining the enabling technologies of GPS, wireless data communications and computer networks, this system provides dispatchers with the tools to reduce emergency response times and to significantly improve the safety of enforcement personnel in the field.
