2001 Suzuki Model Line Offers 6 Models Engineered to Fit Your Life

25 August 2000

Freshened Styling and Upgraded Equipment Highlight the Changes for 2001

BREA, Calif. - Suzuki is hoping that continuing refinement and newly elevated standard equipment levels will make the 2001 models better values than ever before.

With a broad spectrum of models including a hatchback, sedan, wagon and three different SUVs ranging from elemental to opulent, Suzuki's "Engineered to fit your life(TM)" tagline rings more true than ever. For a great many buyers, a new Suzuki vehicle is a perfect fit for their unique needs.

Already established as high-value alternatives in each of their respective market segments, Suzuki's 2001 models return with key upgrades that further strengthen their appeal. All three SUV models, the Vitara, Grand Vitara and Grand Vitara Limited Edition have a new grille design and benefit from new larger stereo face plates with standard in-dash CD players, among many other enhancements.

The Esteem Sedan and Wagon also sport a new grille design, as well as a newly upgraded in-dash CD player. The economical Swift hatchback returns for 2001 with new colors; its tremendous affordability and fuel economy carry over.

    Grand Vitara Limited Edition

Serving as rolling proof that a luxury SUV needn't be hard on the environment or your checking account, the right-sized Grand Vitara Limited Edition is Suzuki's most lavishly appointed SUV. With standard V6 power and automatic transmission, leather upholstery and much more, the four-door Limited Edition compares favorably with some much more expensive SUVs.

Available in four-wheel or two-wheel drive, the Limited has an indulgent list of comfort and convenience features that this year includes a power tilt-and-slide sunroof, a two-DIN Clarion AM/FM stereo unit with in-dash CD and cassette player, and new aluminum wheels.

    Grand Vitara

Looking for the utility of four doors coupled with enough comfort, luxury and capability to make the miles happily melt away? The Grand Vitara satisfies those needs with a particularly complete standard equipment list topped by the ready power of a sophisticated aluminum alloy V6 engine.

Available in JLS two-wheel drive or JLX four-wheel drive, move up to a "+" model and you'll be treated to four-wheel ABS, a new in-dash cassette and CD player featuring large control buttons and new-for-2001 alloy wheels. All Grand Vitara variants have new seat fabric and floor mats for 2001.

    Vitara

Fun meets affordability in this action-oriented entry-level SUV. Choose the adventure seeking two-door with its removable soft-top, or opt for the comfort of the four-door with its hard-top -- either Vitara can be had in two different trim levels. The base engine in the two-door model is a lively 1.8-liter in-line four cylinder with a 2.0-liter four available as an upgrade.

The 1.8-liter engine is standard in the Vitara four-door model. Both body styles are available with manual or automatic transmission, or with rear-drive or dirt-ready four-wheel drive. For 2001, all Vitara models get a restyled front grille and seat fabric, larger audio unit with in-dash CD player, fresh color choices and other upgrades.

    Esteem Wagon

An excellent choice for buyers looking for SUV-like interior space coupled with sedan-like handling ease, the Esteem Wagon provides a stylish alternative. With room for five and 61 cubic feet of cargo capacity, practical utility figures prominently on the Esteem Wagon's list of attributes.

Three trim levels are offered; GL, GLX and GLX+, all powered by an efficient 1.8-liter in-line four driving the front wheels. For the new year, all Esteem Wagons have an enlarged audio face plate that incorporates a convenient in-dash CD player and benefit from new seat fabric and standard floor mats.

    Esteem Sedan

Like its Wagon counterpart, the Esteem Sedan has several key upgrades for 2001, including an in-dash CD player, restyled grille, new seat fabric and standard floor mats. This stylish and accommodating five-passenger sedan is offered in three different trim levels; nicely equipped GL, mid-level GLX and top-level GLX+. All models are powered by an economical 1.8-liter engine.

    Swift

It wasn't broken, so we didn't fix it; the fuel-sipping (EPA fuel economy for the manual transmission rates 36 mpg city/42 highway), supremely economical Swift hatchback returns for 2001 with changes that are only paint deep.

    Warranty

All 2001 Suzuki models are covered by a 36-month/36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty and a 24-month/24,000-mile battery warranty. Perforation due to corrosion is covered for 36 months with unlimited mileage. The Warranty Repair Courtesy Vehicle Program provides a courtesy vehicle through Enterprise Rent-A-Car to noncommercial purchase or lease customers.

If a Suzuki vehicle is inoperable, unsafe or illegal to operate and is required to stay overnight at a Suzuki dealer to complete a warranty repair during the 36-month/36,000-mile new vehicle warranty period, the Suzuki dealer will provide a courtesy rental vehicle for up to a maximum of five days when parts and labor are required or a maximum of three days on labor-only repairs at a maximum rental value of $30 per day.
