GM Doraville and Dale Earnhardt Celebrate One-Millionth Minivan
DORAVILLE, Ga., Aug. 24 NASCAR Champion Dale Earnhardt and
nearly 4,000 employees will celebrate the production of the General Motors
Doraville Assembly Plant's one-millionth minivan on Thursday, August 24. A
troop of Looney Tunes(TM) characters will accompany Earnhardt as he drives the
2001 Chevrolet Venture Warner Bros. Edition minivan off the plant's final
assembly line.
The six-member Bailey family of Kennesaw, Georgia, new owners of the one
millionth van, will be on hand to accept their vehicle ordered through Tom
Jumper Chevrolet of Atlanta.
The Baileys will get the unique opportunity to meet seven-time Winston Cup
Series winner Earnhardt face-to-face. The four Bailey children -- 2, 4, 6 and
8 years old -- and plant employees will be entertained during the festivities
by Bugs Bunny, Sylvester, Tweety and Daffy Duck, who agreed to clear their
schedules in support of the Bailey's new entertainment package included with
their Chevrolet Venture Warner Bros. Edition minivan.
As part of the celebration, Earnhardt will host an employee autograph
session to recognize the tremendous efforts put forth by GM Doraville
employees to reach the 1 million milestone.
For more than 75 years, GM has maintained a strong presence in the Atlanta
community. The GM Doraville Assembly Plant, which covers more than 166 acres,
began producing vehicles in 1947 as part of the Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac
Assembly Division. The plant produced its eight-millionth vehicle in
February. It began minivan production in 1996. Currently, the plant builds
the Chevrolet Venture, Oldsmobile Silhouette and Pontiac Montana minivans. The
Doraville workforce, represented by United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 10,
focuses its daily efforts on GM's global manufacturing priorities: ensuring
safety, optimizing quality, empowering people, reducing costs, and being
responsive to customer needs.
