Oshkosh Incorporates State-of-the-Art Technology into HEMTT; Oshkosh Truck Introduces New Version of Best Selling Heavy Defense Truck
OSHKOSH, Wis.--Aug. 23, 2000--Oshkosh Truck Corporation has unveiled its latest model of Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) to the U.S. Army Transportation Center at Fort Eustis, Vir. Called the HEMTT - Extended Service Program (ESP) with load handling system, the new vehicle was introduced during the U.S. Army's Transportation School Regimental Week, July 24 - 28.It features the same load handling system (LHS) as the revolutionary Oshkosh Palletized Load System vehicle. The unique LHS allows the truck to load and unload cargo without any additional material handling equipment. It takes less than one minute for the driver to load and unload, without ever leaving the cab.
The HEMTT-LHS was developed with the latest, performance enhancing technology available, including:
-- | Oshkosh's central tire inflation system, which increases traction and ride quality by allowing the operator to instantaneously select an appropriate tire pressure for the terrain with the touch of a button; |
-- | Neway(R) air ride suspension for a smoother ride over rough terrain and less wear on vehicle components; |
-- | EPA-compliant engine; |
-- | Anti-lock braking system; and |
-- | Collision warning system which provides early warning of potential obstacles to enhance safety and guard against collisions |
"This is yet another example of Oshkosh's world-class engineering and manufacturing expertise breathing new life and value into the U.S. Army fleet. We've taken the combat-proven performance and reliability of the venerable HEMTT, fused it with leading edge technology, to develop a new milestone for performance and versatility," said Robert G. Bohn, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Oshkosh.
The HEMTT-LHS is one of the U.S. Army's extended service programs. These units are existing U.S. Army assets, which have been overhauled and rebuilt by Oshkosh to "as new" condition, complete with a new vehicle warranty. Oshkosh is the only truck manufacturer providing rebuild services to the U.S. military today.
The U.S. Army Transportation Center trains the Transportation Corps' active and reserve soldiers, top civilian transportation managers, and Department of Defense personnel in career development and technical courses. The center is dedicated to shaping the future of Army transportation through the development of advanced concepts, doctrine, material and force structure.
