                        Spartan Motors Unveils National Free Vacation Offer
& Test Drive Program

CHARLOTTE, Michigan, August 23, 2000 – Talk about the tail wagging the dog.
Incentives for test driving cars, trucks and even motorhomes are nothing new
from the manufacturer standpoint – unless the offer happens to come from a
supplier.

Charlotte, Mich.-based Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAR) wants to get
prospective motorhome owners behind the wheel of a coach equipped with one
of its custom chassis, so it is sponsoring a promotion to give away four
luxury vacations, including air fare, to people who register by test driving
an RV with a Spartan custom chassis.

“Many RVers are not aware of the difference a chassis makes in the ride,
handling and maneuverability of a motorhome. We want to educate the
consumer, and a test drive is a great way to do it,” said Roger Burrows,
Spartan Motors vice president of sales and marketing. “Once people get
behind the wheel of a coach equipped with a Spartan chassis, they will
immediately notice the difference.”

The Spartan free vacation offer will be available at all participating RV
dealers around the country that sell Spartan chassis-powered motorhomes.
Spartan Motors estimates there are more than 250 dealerships coast-to-coast
that sell motorhomes with a Spartan chassis.  Leading RV makers such as
Coachmen, Damon, Fleetwood, Forest River, National RV, Newmar, Rexhall,
Winnebago and others use a Spartan chassis on at least one of their models
of coaches.

The four winning couples of the free vacation offer will win a luxury
vacation for two at either a resort on Captiva Island in the Gulf of Mexico,
a ski trip in Lake Tahoe, or a cruise in the Bahamas.  The contest will be
detailed in several RV trade publications, including a special upcoming
advertisement in the September issue of Family Motor Coaching.  Participants
in the contest can enter any time prior to the two drawings, which will be
held in January and August 2001, by taking a test drive at any dealer that
sells Spartan custom chassis.

As part of this promotion, sales representatives at dealerships that sell
RVs with Spartan chassis will also be given a chance to win a vacation.  The
sales representative who signs up the most potential customers for a test
drive will win a vacation, while a second vacation will be given to a sales
rep in a random drawing.

“This vacation give-a-way will create new traffic and sales for the
dealerships that sell vehicles with Spartan custom chassis,” Burrows said.
“It is our goal that this program will also motivate and excite their sales
staffs and increase customer loyalty by putting consumers behind the wheel
of a premium RV.  It’s a simple and fun way to introduce people to the RV
lifestyle and show them the benefits offered by a Spartan-manufactured
custom chassis.”
