Con-Way Southern Express Expands Dallas/Ft. Worth Operations; August 24 Groundbreaking Scheduled for New Service Center in Garland, TX

    GARLAND, Texas--Aug. 22, 2000--

Company Increases Local Freight Handling Capacity for Second Time in 6 Months

Citing business growth, Con-Way Southern Express (CSE), a less-than-truckload commercial freight carrier, announced its plans to build a new service center in Garland. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 530 S. International Road on Thursday, August 24 at 10 AM.
"The Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex is a growing market for us and a major connecting point in CON-WAY's nationwide service network," said John T. Hickerson, president and chief executive officer of Con-Way Southern Express. "It is very important that we have sufficient freight handling capabilities in place for future business growth. This new service location gives us that capacity," he added. CSE has additional service centers in Fort Worth and Dallas and opened a new, larger facility in Tyler earlier this year.
The company-owned facility will sit on approximately 20 acres and be located within easy access to major highways in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. A 37,141 square foot building will include 6,510 square feet of office space and 30,631 square feet of dock area. Company officials said the new facility will open with 80 dock doors and will have the capacity to add 20 more as needed. Total freight handling capacity of the facility will be more than 10 million pounds per week.
The facility will initially employ 50 people with plans to hire an additional 50 as business volumes dictate. Completion of construction is scheduled for February 2001.
Con-Way Southern Express, based in Ft. Worth, is a component company of Con-Way Transportation Services, a $1.9 billion transportation company that provides time-definite and day-definite freight delivery and logistics services for commercial and industrial businesses.
Within the CON-WAY family are regional less-than-truckload carriers Con-Way Central Express, Con-Way Southern Express and Con-Way Western Express; Con-Way NOW, an expedited carrier specializing in emergency shipment service; and Con-Way Integrated Services, a contract supply chain execution service provider.
CON-WAY is a subsidiary of Palo Alto, California-based CNF , a $5.6 billion management company of global supply chain services with businesses in regional trucking, air freight, ocean freight, customs brokerage, global logistics management and trailer manufacturing.
