Genuine Parts Company Announces New Board Member and Declares Regular Quarterly Dividend
ATLANTA - Larry Prince, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Genuine Parts Company , announced the election of Dr. Michael M. E. Johns as a new Director of the Company. Dr. Johns is Executive Vice President for Health Affairs at Emory University, Director of The Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center and Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of EMORY HEALTHCARE. Prior to joining Emory in 1996, Dr. Johns served as Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs at Johns Hopkins University.Mr. Prince stated, "Dr. Johns brings a unique perspective to our Board and we welcome him. We look forward to his contributions, as his talents cover a broad spectrum."
The Board of Directors of Genuine Parts Company declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of 27.5 cents per share on the Company's common stock.
The dividend is payable October 2, 2000 to shareholders of record September 8, 2000.
Genuine Parts Company is a distributor of automotive replacement parts in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The Company also distributes industrial replacement parts in the U.S., Canada and Mexico through its Motion Industries subsidiary. S. P. Richards Company, the Office Products Group, distributes product nationwide in the U.S. and in Canada. The Electrical/Electronic Group, EIS, Inc., distributes electrical and electronic components throughout the U.S. and Mexico. Genuine Parts Company had 1999 revenues of $7.9 billion and net income of $377.6 million.
