PTC's Pro/ENGINEER Speeds Richard Childress Racing Enterprise's Designs to the Racetrack

WALTHAM, Mass. - As part of its focus on its Performance Teams, PTC , a
leading provider of collaborative product commerce (CPC) solutions, today
celebrated its successes with Richard Childress Racing Enterprises Inc. (RCR),
a leading NASCAR stock car racing operation. RCR fields the Winston Cup Series
teams of seven-time champion Dale Earnhardt and 1997 Rookie-of-the-Year, Mike
Skinner, as well as the Busch Series teams of Rookie-of-the-Year leader Kevin
Harvick and Mike Dillon. RCR uses PTC software to promote innovation in its
development process and to reduce design time. This partnership supports PTC's
position as one of the leading software vendors with resources dedicated to the
Performance Team industry. (See today's related release, "PTC Shares Outstanding
Success with Performance Teams".)

"Our design team has benefited greatly from using PTC's Pro/ENGINEER
software. In fact, Pro/ENGINEER enabled us to design proprietary parts with
complex surfaces in house -- something we were unable to do without
Pro/ENGINEER," said Clifton B. Kiziah, Design Engineer for RCR Research and
Design. "We continue to be impressed on a daily basis with the power and
functionality of Pro/ENGINEER and other PTC products. PTC's solutions have
enabled us to expand our capabilities and accomplish a new level of design
professionalism."

RCR uses PTC software to streamline and accelerate its project development
process, reducing the time necessary to get a design modification on to the
racetrack. RCR previously used two-dimensional design software to develop its
models and components, which forced them to produce physical mockups by which
to machine and manufacture the parts. Pro/ENGINEER provided RCR with rapid
generation of solid, three-dimensional models and surfaces of a part to export
directly to the shop responsible for its manufacturing. By removing the
additional mockups and speeding the synthesis of three-dimensional models, the
PTC software was able to drastically reduce RCR's time-to-product.

"The combination of secrecy and demand for innovation in stock car racing
really puts the pressure on the teams to be the first to find the fastest
design," said Jon Stevenson, executive vice president and general manager,
MCAD at PTC. "Our software has allowed RCR to eliminate redundancy in their
design process, and helped to expedite their innovations."

RCR's racing program was also accelerated by Pro/ENGINEER's associative
capabilities, which update any given changes in the design parametrically
throughout the entire component product design and lifecycle. This feature
simplifies refinements and removes many of the traditional, computational
restrictions to innovation. For example, RCR can modify the dimensions of a
part quickly and have the assembly and drawing update automatically. Not only
does that save time during the design stage, but it also enables RCR to
immediately verify the viability of the modified design.
