TRACKS: Moore shakes bad luck, takes modified win at Lebanon Valley
20 August 2000
WEST LEBANON, NY- Chris Moore was finally able to shake a string of bad luck to capture the 30-lap modified feature at Lebanon Valley Saturday night. Roy Bridge dominated the 20-lap sportsman feature for his second win of the season. Jim Lagenback was victorious in the 20-lap street stock main. Parts Plus was the main sponsor for the evenings entertainment. Mark Fluery was the early race leader in the 30-lap modified feature. He was able to hold on to the lead until lap four when Chris Moore was able to make the pass. Tim Dwyer was charging toward the front early and was up to second by lap eight. What is becoming a weekly occurrence at the Valley happened on lap nine as a multi-car crash brought out the first caution of the race. At least eight cars were piled into each other in turn three including J.R. Heffner, Kenny Tremont and John Hewitt. The caution flew again on lap nine as John Lutes stopped on the frontstretch with heavy right front-end damage. Mark Fluery slowed dramatically on the restart with made the cars behind him have to check up. That was nearly disaster for current point leader Rich Ricci Jr as he and Donnie Corellis were stuck together. Fortunately they were able to separate without needing a caution. Meanwhile, Moore and Dwyer had pulled away from the rest of the pack. Brian "The Dream" Weaver was on hand Saturday night for the first time and had a good run going in the feature and was racing Ricci for tenth on lap 13. Matt Quinn spun coming off turn two and brought out the caution on lap 13, he would retire from the event three laps later. Ricci was able to vault up to sixth on the restart. Corellis took fifth away from Jason Goff on lap 18. The caution came out again on lap 20 as Dave Leckonby got spun around in turn two. Dave Mosher and John Hewitt would crash under the yellow flag ending Mosher's night. Ricci moved up to third on the restart. Moore had opened a nice five-car cushion over Dwyer as the race reached the three-quarter mark. Moore narrowly avoided disaster on lap 28 as Eddie Maxon's car dropped the contents of his radiator going into turn one. Moore was able to slow his car down in time to avoid the turn one wall. The rest of the rest went rather uneventful and Moore was able to cruise home for the win. Dwyer was second, Ricci was third, Dickie Larkin fourth and Corellis was fifth. It was a very bad night for Kenny Tremont as he started the race from the last position with a back-up car. Tremont was able to salvage a seventh by night's end. John Hotchkiss was the early leader in the 20-lap sportsman feature. Lorne Browe took the lead from Hotchkiss by lap three. Roy Bridge moved up to third by lap five and was able to take the lead by lap nine. The first caution of the race did not come out until the field had taken the halfway sign. Mike Mason spun out in turn one and was not able to re-fire quickly. Stan Jablonka was able to move into fourth on the restart. Don Miller tagged the wall in turn two bringing out the second caution of the race on lap 13. Bridge had a super strong car on this night and he was able to open a large advantage after every restart. There was some great racing behind Bridge for the runner-up spot. Browe, Jablonka and Bobby Knipe put on one heck of a show for second. Browe was able to hang on to second with Knipe third, Jablonka fourth and K.C. Goewey rounded out the top five. Ed Bachand had command of the 20-lap street stock feature in the early stages. The first caution of the race came out on lap five when Nick Rogers came to a stop on the frontstretch. Scott Govertsen was not able to avoid the disabled car and wound up in the frontstretch wall. Bobby Duzlak used the lap five restart to take the lead from Bachand. Last week's winner, Dan Burl; would not be as fortunate on this night as he wound up on his lid on the backstretch. Bachand tried to get back around Duzlak on the restart, but Duzlak held him off. The caution came out on lap eight as Don Ely spun out in turn two. Jim Lagenback was able to take the lead on the restart. Ricky Duzlak got his chance to lead on lap ten, but heavy smoke began to show from his car. The leader shuffle continued on lap 13 as Paul LaRochelle made the pass for the lead. Kevin Jordan made a surprise appearance Saturday night and was running in the top ten; He would drop from the event on lap 16. LaRochelle spun out by himself in turn one, which gave the lead back to Lagenback. Robbie Speed deserved the hard charger award in the feature. Speed started the race from the 29th position and was able to get all the way up to fourth by the end of the race. Ricky Duzlak hit the turn two wall hard on lap 18, which brought out the final caution of the event. Lagenback was able to hang on for the victory; Ted Teal and Todd Goldstein followed him across the line. 8-19 PARTS PLUS / INSTITUTE FOR ENTREPRENUERSHIP NIGHT MODIFIED SUMMARY (30 LAPS) - 1) CHRIS MOORE, 2) Tim Dwyer, 3) Rich Ricci Jr, 4) Dickie Larkin, 5) Donnie Corellis, 6) David Sanchez, 7) Kenny Tremont Jr, 8) Denny Soltis, 9) Ronnie Johnson, 10) J.R.
