American Axle & Manufacturing Receives Automotive Industries Quest for Excellence 'Best of the Best' Award

DETROIT - American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. which is traded as AXL
on the NYSE, today announced the receipt of Automotive Industries magazine's
prestigious Quest for Excellence supplier award in the Transmission and
Drivetrain Systems category. The "Best of the Best" award was presented at a
reception and dinner at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Aug. 16.

The annual award is presented to automotive suppliers who are judged best
in class by Automotive Industries' readers in the areas of quality, price,
delivery, service and innovation. The readers' ratings in the five categories
are given equal weights and combined into a final rating for each supplier.

"We are delighted to receive this award," said David C. Dauch, AAM vice
president, Sales & Marketing. "The significance for us is that we were
selected for this award by our customers. It is truly an honor to be judged
among the 'Best of the Best' by the people we do business with on a daily
basis."

"This is the third year that we have presented our Quest for Excellence
awards, and each year the competition has gotten tougher," said Andrew J.
Cummins, editorial director for Automotive Industries. "It is a testament to
the relationship that AAM has with its customers that it has been selected to
receive this award."

AAM is a world leader in the manufacture, engineering, validation and
design of driveline systems, chassis systems and forged products for trucks,
buses, sport utility vehicles and passenger cars. In addition to its 14
locations in the United States (in Michigan, New York and Ohio), AAM also has
offices and facilities in Brazil, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and
Scotland.
