Chrome Data Corporation Announces the Chrome Standard

16 August 2000

The Chrome Standard Seal Distinguishes Clients from Competition and Provides Consumers Assurance of Vehicle Pricing and Specification Accuracy

    PORTLAND, Ore.

Chrome Data Corporation, the automotive industry's most accurate independent business-to-business provider of data and software for selling cars online, today announced The Chrome Standard(TM), a new program designed to instill consumer confidence in Web sites and car lots displaying The Chrome Standard seal.

This new logo adds credibility to Chrome clients because Chrome's vehicle data is the most unbiased, accurate information available in the automotive e-commerce industry, according to a recent independent survey. Consumers researching vehicles on auto-commerce Web sites featuring The Chrome Standard seal can now have the confidence that the automobile specification and pricing information delivered on these sites is accurate, unbiased, timely and complete.

The Chrome Standard ultimately benefits both buyers and sellers. When both parties have equal access to the same unbiased, accurate information the buying and selling process is accelerated.

"The Chrome Standard replaces pricing chaos with pricing confidence," said Bob Navarre, Chrome CEO. "Consumers are demanding a trusted source to provide them with the most accurate vehicle configuration information. Now our clients, which include Internet-savvy dealers, credit unions, online auto buying sites and portals, can increase that trust by displaying The Chrome Standard seal on the Web or on the lot."

In support of this effort Chrome has launched The Chrome Standard program to educate and promote the seal to dealers, credit unions and online auto buying sites. Hundreds of Chrome clients have received promotional kits to explain and display The Chrome Standard both on the Web and on the lot. Chrome has also launched a consumer education campaign, producing the brochure "Do's and Don'ts: Tips for Car Buyers Shopping Online."

    Chrome: Most Accurate Data Provider

In a recent independent study CNW Marketing/Research compared the pricing data of the major online automotive data sources by configuring 86 different vehicles at eight different Web sites (see Chrome Data Named Most Accurate Data Provider for Automotive e-Commerce, June 27, 2000). Chrome ranked first in data accuracy with an average price discrepancy of only one-third of one percent of the average new car price -- less than the study's margin of error.

    About Chrome Data

Chrome Data pioneered the technology behind electronic vehicle configuration and for the past 14 years has collected, analyzed and enhanced "raw" automotive data from all manufacturers. Chrome's flagship product, the desktop research, pricing and ordering tool PC Carbook(R), is widely accepted as the standard in automotive data. Chrome's Internet-based product, Chrome Carbook(TM), allows dealers, Internet portals, financial institutions, and insurance and warranty companies to provide visitors to their Web sites with a tool to configure cars online -- including specifications on all new vehicle makes and models, standard and optional equipment, vehicle pictures and accurate pricing. This information precisely matches manufacturers' invoice and MSRP pricing, enabling users to configure and order any vehicle sold in the U.S. with the confidence that the delivered product and price are exactly what was expected.
