TI Automotive Reports Increased Sales, ProfitsWARREN, Mich. - TI Group Automotive Systems increased both sales and profits in the first half of 2000, its parent company, TI Group plc, announced today. TI Automotive's sales for the first two quarters increased by 76 percent to $1.4 billion and operating profit increased by 52 percent to $148.5 million, compared with the first half of 1999. TI Automotive is the world leader in fluid handling systems for fuel, brake and powertrain applications. Its North American headquarters are in Warren, Michigan. "TI Automotive has won around $1 billion of new vehicle platform business in the first half, including major contracts with DaimlerChrysler for the Mercedes C-class, with Ford for the Ranger sport utility, and with General Motors for a future global car platform," said Allan Welsh, chief executive. "We are now achieving new business in excess of $200 a vehicle, compared to an average of $30 a few years ago," Welsh said. "This follows our acquisition of Walbro Corporation last year, which combined with our Bundy business, makes us the only independent supplier with global design and manufacturing capacity in complete proprietary fuel storage and delivery systems." TI Group Automotive Systems is a unit of UK-based TI Group, plc, one of the world's leading specialized engineering companies. For the first half of 2000, TI Group reported total sales of $2.8 billion, up 35 percent from the previous year, and before-tax earnings were $241.7 million, up 12 percent. Earnings per share (before goodwill and exceptional items) were $0.33, up 5.1 percent.
