NOTES OF INTEREST: This year’s ARCA classic at Winchester will be the
15th ARCA race held at the historic half-mile high-banked speedplant
since the series first raced there in 1964. Winchester Speedway is a
sister track of Salem Speedway and the former Dayton Speedway built by
Frank Funk in the 1920s. NASCAR legend and former ARCA winner Bobby
Allison will help highlight the festivities as Grand Marshal for the
event. The 1983 NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion will also be on hand
to sign autographs. The event, sponsored by Astral Carrier, is unique in
that it will be the first ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series race at Winchester
to be run under the lights scheduled for an 8 PM local start time with
practice at 3 PM and qualifying at 5:30. It’s also the first ARCA race
to go 250 laps instead of the typical 200. After 14 events, 7 have been
won from the pole. 3-time ARCA champion Tim Steele is the only 3-time
winner at Winchester and will make his first Winchester appearance since
1997 when he, not only won the race, but set a new ARCA 1-lap qualifying
record at 16.357 seconds or 110.045 mph. Two-time winners at Winchester
include former ARCA champions’ Marvin Smith and Tracy Leslie.
Additional winners at Winchester are Jack Bowsher, Gary Bradberry, Bob
Keselowski, Frank Kimmel, Ralph Latham, Bob Strait and Bobby Watson.
