MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - AK Steel was the only supplier of raw materials to
DaimlerChrysler Corporation to earn the automaker's Commodity Award for 1999.
The award, formerly known as the Platinum Pentastar Award, is presented to

Bernard P. Bedard, director, raw materials and stampings for
DaimlerChrysler, presented the award to the company during a special meeting
recently at AK Steel's corporate offices in Middletown.

"Earning the DaimlerChrysler Commodity Award places AK Steel among our
highest rated suppliers," said Mr. Bedard. "Such suppliers who consistently
meet our ever-increasing requirements are truly considered 'world-class,'" he
said.

"I am proud to accept this most prestigious supplier award on behalf of
all the AK Steel employees who have earned it," said Richard M. Wardrop, Jr.,
