C. Sean Day Elected to Board of Directors of Genesee & Wyoming Inc.

     GREENWICH, Conn. - Genesee & Wyoming Inc. announced today that C. Sean Day 
has been elected to the Company's Board of Directors.  Mr. Day currently holds a 
number of senior positions in the shipping, banking and venture capital 
industries including, Chairman of Teekay Shipping Corporation , Director of 
Kirby Corporation , Director of Oceanic Bank and Trust Limited (Bahamas),
Chairman of The Compass Group (Westport, CT) and Chairman of Transmarine
Navigation Corp. (Long Beach, CA).   Mr. Day holds a Masters degree in
Jurisprudence from Oxford University and a business degree from the University
of Cape Town (South Africa).

2,700 miles under track access arrangements.
