2 August 2000
(Harrisburg, N.C.) - #10 Pontiac driver Johnny Benson and his MB2 Motorsports teammates will finish the 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup season with Aaron's as the team's primary sponsor. The Atlanta-based furniture rental leader agreed Tuesday evening to sponsor the team beginning Saturday in the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Benson's car will wear Aaron's paint scheme in the race."If it wasn't for Aaron's this team wouldn't race the rest of the season so you better believe we are thankful," said Benson. "This is my dream come true. We certainly owe them for their generosity and I know all of our fans and NASCAR fans in general appreciate what they have done for us and this sport.
"We plan to keep running well and make everyone aware that Aaron Rents is on our car. I couldn't think of a better place to do it at Indy this weekend."
Aaron's along with R. Charles Loudermilk, Chairman of the Board, said the opportunity with Benson and his MB2 teammates was too good to ignore.
"This team has battled through some adversity all season and still outrun a lot of other cars,' said Loudermilk. "It's that kind of tenaciousness that Aaron's likes to associate itself."
The #10 Pontiac began the season owned by Tyler Jet Motorsports. On June 30, the team lost its primary sponsor then MB2 purchased Tyler Jet's assets from on July 26. Benson's season highlights include leading 38 laps in the Daytona 500, finishing second at Bristol and the 5-year veteran is 16th in points despite missing Atlanta in March.
"We are the only team from Georgia. We looked all over the globe for a sponsor, and darn it if we didn't find one right here in our own backyard," said Tom Beard who co-owns the team with Atlanta businessmen Read Morton and Nelson Bowers. "They are a first class company and we are proud to be associated with them."
