July U.S. Sales Increase 1%; Year-to-Date Up 5%DEARBORN, Mich. - U.S. consumers purchased or leased 347,331 cars and trucks from Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Jaguar, Volvo, and Land Rover dealers in the month of July, up one percent from a year ago. July is the first month Land Rover has been included in Ford Motor Company's U.S. sales results. In the first seven months of 2000, Ford Motor Company sales totaled 2.63 million, five percent higher than last year's record-setting sales pace. "The U.S. economy and consumer confidence remain strong," said Bob Rewey, Ford Group Vice President, Global Consumer Services and North America, "and demand for new cars and trucks continues at a healthy rate. These conditions and the success of our new products are driving the increase in our third quarter production plan." In the third quarter, Ford Motor Company's North American production plan is nine percent higher than a year ago with truck production up 12 percent (88,000 units) and cars up two percent (8,000). Higher truck production is concentrated in these three products: * Ford Escape -- All-new compact sport utility vehicle. * Ford Explorer Sport Trac -- Industry's first SUV with a pickup bed * Ford F-150 SuperCrew -- Industry's first full-size, light-duty pickup with four standard-sized doors The all-new Ford Focus more than accounts for the increase in car production. July Sales Highlights * Ford dealers delivered 286,962 cars and trucks to U.S. customers, up three percent compared with a year ago.
