Toyota July Sales Hold SteadyTORRANCE, Calif. - Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., today reported July sales of 135,457, an increase of 1.0 percent over last July. Calendar-year-to- date sales stand at 948,749, an increase of 12.0 percent over the same period last year. "While there was a slight cooling trend in July's overall sales pace, several segments remain hot and those manufacturers with great products and customer service continue to enjoy strong results," said Jim Press, TMS executive vice president. Both TMS sales divisions posted steady sales compared to last July. The Toyota Division recorded sales of 117,854 units, up 0.1 percent while the Lexus Division posted best-ever July sales with 17,603 units, an increase of 7.1 percent over the same period last year. Toyota Division passenger car sales were led by the Avalon full-size sedan with best-ever July sales of 8,865, an increase of 86.6 percent. Despite limited dealer supply, the ECHO subcompact sedan continues to attract younger buyers, enjoying another solid sales month with 4,565 units sold. CYTD ECHO sales now stand at 30,038, well ahead of Toyota Division sales forecasts. The Celica sport coupe also continued to post strong sales with 4,737 units sold. The revolutionary Prius gas/electric hybrid sedan debuted with 841 sales in July and has approximately 2,600 additional dealer-confirmed orders. Toyota light truck sales were led by the popular Sienna minivan with a best-ever sales month of 10,680 units, an increase of 28.6 percent. The Tundra full-size pickup pitched in with best-ever July sales of 8,914, up 143.5 percent. The Lexus Division's record July sales were fueled by the RX 300 sport utility vehicle which recorded best-ever July sales of 7,489 units, up 16.5 percent. The all-new IS 300 sport sedan contributed to the Lexus Division's record sales month with 2,073 units sold. Sales of North American-built vehicles made up 61.9 percent of total July sales. There were 25 selling days compared to 26 last July.
