Chrysler Brand Sets Seventh Consecutive Sales Record
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Chrysler brand set a new July sales record and
recorded its seventh consecutive monthly record with sales of 38,277 vehicles,
up 53 percent compared with July 1999. The Chrysler Group recorded overall
sales of 191,466, down 12 percent.
"While overall sales have declined compared to the record pace of 1999, we
continue to record healthy sales as we prepare the launches of some of our
best selling vehicles -- the all-new Chrysler and Dodge minivans and our all-
new line of mid-size sedans and coupes," said Theodor Cunningham, Executive
Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing. "Armed with these new vehicles,
we still expect record sales in 2000.
"And that is only the beginning. Over the next three years, we will
replace an unprecedented 85 percent of our product line."
Total sport utility sales reached a new July record with total sales of
67,968, a five percent gain over July 1999. The Chrysler brand continued its
strong 2000 with the unprecedented sales success of the PT Cruiser. PT sales
reached 10,731, up 40 percent over last month, setting a new monthly sales
record.
Chrysler Cirrus sales gained 16 percent and Chrysler Town and Country
minivan sales were up 12 percent. Overall Chrysler truck sales reached
23,422, up 290 percent compared to last year and setting a ninth consecutive
monthly sales record.
Dodge recorded record sales of Dakota, up 70 percent to 15,471 and
surpassing the previous record of 11,919 set in 1998. Dodge Neon also
performed strongly in July, with sales gaining 21 percent versus same month
1999 sales.
